NETLOG(x & nx) Ver 1.2.0
(c)Copyright 1992, Chris Lowe
OVERVIEW
NETLOG is a simple but effective program that has a very
important purpose, to hold the user in a tight loop during the
login process until the login is completed correctly or the user
explicitly aborts the procedure (if allowed).
INSTALLATION
NOTE !! In all the following examples, substitute either NETLOGx
or NETLOGnx for NETLOG, depending on which program you wish to use.
The easiest thing to do is copy Novell's LOGIN.EXE program to
LOGINNVL.EXE into SYS:LOGIN and SYS:PUBLIC, then copy NETLOG.EXE
into SYS:LOGIN and SYS:PUBLIC and name it LOGIN.EXE .
HOW TO ----> Login as SUPERVISOR or equivelent
"MAP G:=SYS:LOGIN" <ENTER>
"G:" <ENTER>
"FLAG LOGIN.EXE SRW" <ENTER>
"COPY LOGIN.EXE LOGINNVL.EXE" <ENTER>
"COPY A:NETLOG.EXE LOGIN.EXE" <ENTER>
"FLAG LOGIN*.EXE SRO" <ENTER>
"MAP H:=SYS:PUBLIC" <ENTER>
"H:" <ENTER>
"FLAG LOGIN.EXE SRW" <ENTER>
"COPY LOGIN.EXE LOGINNVL.EXE" <ENTER>
"COPY A:NETLOG.EXE LOGIN.EXE" <ENTER>
"FLAG LOGIN*.EXE SRO" <ENTER>
USEAGE
NETLOG monitors the success or failure of the login procedure. If
the login is successful, the end user will not see any difference
from what they normally see on their PC. If the login fails,
NETLOG will kick in and ask if they wish to attempt the login
again or to abort the process, if allowed.
Specifics to NETLOGx
NETLOGx may be set so that the <Esc> feature is disabled. This forces
the user to login or forget it. This may be accomplished in 2 ways.
The first is to call NETLOG with a "/NX" switch. Ex: NETLOG [/NX] [username]
The arguments do not have to be in any order, but they MUST BE separated by
a space. The second method is to set an enviroment variable using the DOS
SET command in the AUTOEXEC or some other batch file. The set command
should look like this "SET NETLOG=/NX".
Examples --> *Assumes NETLOG has been renamed to LOGIN.EXE
LOGIN --> Will ask for ID and Password
LOGIN GUEST --> Will ask for Password
LOGIN /? --> Will display user message
LOGIN /NX --> Will disable <Esc> and ask for ID and Password
Specifics to NETLOGnx
NETLOGnx will NOT allow the user to <Esc> from the login loop and it is
not an option to the user. SUPERVISORS --> <Ctrl><F12> will abort the
program anytime.
